Bulk empty capsules: frequently asked questions

No. Capsules Hub supplies empty hard capsules in bulk cartons only, to nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and food supplement manufacturers who fill their own powders and formulations. We do not sell retail packs or small quantities.

Two-piece hard capsules in Halal-certified bovine gelatin, plant-based HPMC (hypromellose), enteric coated (gelatin or HPMC base) and custom colour or printed versions of each.

Gelatin and HPMC capsules are available in all standard sizes: 000, 00, 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4. Enteric coated capsules are available in sizes 00 to 3. See our capsule size chart for volumes and dimensions.

Gelatin is the industry standard: excellent machinability and the lowest unit cost, suitable for most powder and granule fills. HPMC is plant-based, so it suits vegan, vegetarian and clean-label products, and its low moisture content (typically 3–7%, against about 13–16% for gelatin) makes it the better choice for hygroscopic or moisture-sensitive actives such as some probiotics and enzymes.

Divide your fill weight by the tapped density of your powder to get the volume you need, then pick the smallest size that holds it. For example, 500 mg of powder at 0.6 g/mL needs about 0.83 mL, so a size 00 capsule (0.91 mL) fits. Our size chart lists fill weights at common densities; we can also advise on your specific blend.

Yes. Our gelatin capsules are made from Halal-certified bovine gelatin. The certificate is available for your supplier qualification file on request.

We provide specifications and quality documentation for supplier qualification. List the documents your QA team requires (for example specification sheet, certificate of analysis, Halal certificate or other statements) in your quote request and we will confirm what we can supply for each product.

Our capsules are standard two-piece hard capsules, compatible with Bosch, NJP and other standard semi-automatic and automatic encapsulation equipment. Tell us your machine model if you would like us to confirm.

Yes. We offer Pantone colour matching, two-tone, opaque, transparent and pearl finishes, and single- or two-colour radial printing on gelatin, HPMC and enteric capsules. Colour-matched samples are provided for approval before production.

Keep cartons sealed in their original packaging, away from direct sunlight, at a controlled room temperature (typically 15–25 °C) and moderate humidity (typically 35–65% relative humidity). Very dry conditions can make gelatin shells brittle; high humidity can make them soft. Follow the storage conditions on the product specification.
